Full course description

Objective

Improve students' mastery of master plan implementation, encompassing programming, project siting, and form-based planning execution. The course includes training on the use of Area Development Plans and regulatory plans. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of course of action (COA) development, linking to project programming, and the process of siting projects in accordance with the master plan. All instruction will take place in Fairfax, VA. Courses are instructed by military and federal representatives. This course is part of the Department of Defense Master Planning Institute in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. 

 

Course Prerequisites

 

  • Master Planning Principles, equivalent UFC-compliant courses, or prior experience. See course description on registration page.
  • Master Plannig Practices, equivalent UFC-compliant courses, or prior experience. See course description on registration page.

Course Description

This course offers in-depth discussions and practical exercises focusing on the following crucial planning activities:

  • Master Planning: Students should have a basic understanding of how to use a Master Plan to inform and shape planning and program for the stationing of a new units at an Army installation.
  • Military Construction: The planner will be able to use a master plan to site new facilities, and repurpose existing facilities
  • Space Utilization: The planner will be able to evaluate future and existing tenant requirements, opportunities for consolidation and needs for expansion
  • Understanding current conditions: The planner will be able to document current conditions with respect to build quality, mission capability, and utilization.
  • Coarse of Action Development: The planner will be able to develop COAs to address new missions, including recommended programming actions required to provide all necessary facilities and possible interim needs

Target Audience

Government employees, including Engineers, Planners, and Real Property Specialists, as well as Master Planners. It is also suitable for individuals in the consulting community and the general public. The course meets the continuing education requirements for the American Institute of Certified Planners certification. Prior completion of Master Planning Practices and Principles is recommended before enrolling in this class.
